Long Island Weather: Storms Threaten The Weekend

Long Island is back under a hazardous weather outlook with the National Weather Service warning of a low chance of flash flooding from late Friday night through Saturday morning.

An area of heavy rain showers and thunderstorms is expected to approach the region Friday night. The primary threat looks to be torrential downpours, but the weather service says an isolated strong to severe storm with damaging wind potential is not out of the question.

Things should dry up Saturday afternoon and come Sunday, you are going to either want to be in some kind of body of water or in front of an air conditioner. Temperatures could top 90 degrees on parts of the island.

Thursday Night- A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Friday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. South wind 9 to 13 mph.

Saturday- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
