Jeannette Mills Rogers, a former physical education teacher and multi-sport coach at Babylon Union Free School District, was recently posthumously inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. Rogers, in partnership with fellow Long Island educators and coaches Dr. H. Jean Burger, Ruth Haynes Gracey and Annamae McKeever Kress, was a trailblazer in the fight to ensure that girls had equal access to opportunities in sports. These four women worked together to create the Suffolk County Girls Athletic Association and to create the prestigious Gold Key athletic award for high school athletes.
