Tanner Park Beach Closed To Swimming Due To Excess Bacteria

The local beach was closed to swimming as of Tuesday until further notice.

COPIAGUE, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Health announced on Tuesday that Tanner Park Beach in Copiague is closed to swimming due to the finding of bacteria in excess of acceptable criteria.

According to Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, swimming in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

The beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
