West Babylon Senior High School student-musician Alexa Lucchesse has been nominated for a Gershwin Award.

On May 30, Alexa will travel to Chelsea Studios in New York City to participate in a daylong audition by a team of Broadway coaches, who will direct the nominees through a rehearsal and presentation of an original musical theater production number. A student talent showcase, which features each student actor singing a solo of a song performed in his or her high school musical, follows the ensemble performance. Gershwin Award winners, Best Leading Actor/Actress in a Musical, who will represent the New York metro area in the National High School Musical Theater Awards, held at the Minskoff Theatre on June 29, following an all-expenses paid five-day musical theater intensive workshop held at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Studio on Broadway.
During the 2014-2015 school year, Alexa was designated as a Nassau Music Educators Association All-County vocalist and a New York State School Music Association All-State vocalist for the women’s chorus. In addition, she played the leading role of Dorothy in the “Wizard of Oz.”
