2 Northeast Queens Schools Named National Blue Ribbon Winners

Two District 26 public schools earned spots on the the U.S. Department of Education​'s latest list of National Blue Ribbon Schools.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Two District 26 public schools have earned spots on the the U.S. Department of Education's latest list of National Blue Ribbon Schools.

P.S. 46 Alley Pond Elementary School in Bayside and P.S. 94 David D Porter Elementary School in Little Neck were among 367 schools nationwide that made the cut, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced Thursday.

This is P.S. 46's second time winning the coveted distinction, according to District 26 officials. The school's first time on the list was in 2013.

Now in its 38th year, the award program "affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content," according to a news release.

More than 9,000 schools across the country have been recognized by the National Blue Ribbon Schools program, with some schools winning multiple awards. Schools are eligible for nomination after five years.

"Congratulations to this year's National Blue Ribbon School awardees," DeVos said in a statement. "It's a privilege to recognize the extraordinary work you do to meet students' needs and prepare them for successful careers and meaningful lives."
