17-Year-Old Pedestrian Hit, Killed In Whitestone Crosswalk: NYPD
An 88-year-old driver fatally struck the teen girl at Utopia Parkway and 16th Avenue on Monday, police said.

WHITESTONE, QUEENS -- A 17-year-old girl is dead after she was mowed down by an 88-year-old driver in a Whitestone crosswalk Monday morning, police said.
Police responding to the crash at Utopia Parkway and 16th Avenue found Madeline Shershen, of Flushing, lying on the pavement with severe head trauma at around 10:30 a.m.
Medics rushed her to New York Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, where she was pronounced dead.

The teen was walking across Utopia Parkway in a marked crosswalk at 16th Avenue when she was hit by a 2005 Toyota sedan driving south along the parkway, authorities said.
The driver, Sheila Kahn-Prager, was arrested at the scene on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian, disobeying a traffic device and failure to exercise due care, an NYPD spokesman said.
