Avella Nabs Endorsement from Animal Rights Group

The League of Humane Voters gets behind him in his race against Joe Concannon.

State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, is a , and, now, the League of Humane Voters.

The group gave him a feather in his cap on Wednesday with an endorsement of his campaign to keep his Senate seat. Avella was also recently nominated on the Independence ballot, according to City and State, against GOP pick Joe Concannon.

“Our membership recognizes that Senator Avella has a distinguished record of supporting animal protection through his work in the New York State Senate,” said LOHV NYS Chairman Peter Muller.  "We will work cooperatively with his campaign and take an active role in assuring Senator Avella’s re-election.”

One species Avella is not a friend of is mosquitoes — at least those carrying West Nile Virus. Avella’s office said he will be calling on the City to do more , following the discovery of a case of West Nile in College Point.
