Bay Terrace Gap Store To Be Replaced By Old Navy: Report

Gap, which has for years been a staple in the Bayside shopping center, will close its doors in July, QNS reports.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- The Gap clothing store that has for years been a staple in Bayside's Bay Terrace Shopping Center will close this summer to make way for its sister retail store, Old Navy, QNS reported.

Gap will shutter its storefront on the lower level of the Bell Boulevard shopping center in July, an employee told the news outlet on Wednesday. The shop features a Gap and GapKids.

But a spokesperson for Cord Meyer Development, the mall's owner, told QNS the shop will reopen as an Old Navy after undergoing renovations during the summer.

Both clothing stores are owned by Gap Inc., a California-based retailer that also owns Banana Republic, Intermix, Athleta and Weddington Way.

Gap Inc. announced in April it would shutter around 200 underperforming Gap and Banana Republic stores while simultaneously bringing back the Old Navy brand over the next three years, CNN reported.

The company plans to open 60 new Old Navy Stores and remodel another 150 this year alone.

But the Gap Inc. stores are far from the first to come and go from the Bay Terrace Shopping Center in recent years.

Sephora opened a new store in the mall where Aeropostale once lived in September, and chain shoe store Aerosoles left the mall in December. Barnes and Noble also vacated the outdoor mall in December 2015 and was replaced by Homegoods in October 2016.
