BAY TERRACE, QUEENS — A Bay Terrace restaurant with a history of legal and financial woes has closed.

The owners of Allora Italian Kitchen & Bar are selling the restaurant at 210-35 26th Ave. for $3.5 million, the listing shows. The restaurant closed sometime in late July or the beginning of August, according to residents and reviews.

Allora, which was owned by brothers Steven and George Menexas, has had a checkered past since opening in 2017.

Then the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance temporarily seized the restaurant in March for an unpaid tax bill of nearly $300,000 that dated back to 2017, according to a spokesperson for the agency.

Allora filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy that same month, records show.

George Menexas, a principal at the insurance brokerage Skyline Risk Management, did not respond to a request for comment.

A Long Island restaurant also owned by the Menexas brothers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June, Newsday reported.

Both Allora and that restaurant, called Ara Greek Kitchen & Bar, took over former Tony Roma franchise locations that the brothers had run, according to Newsday.
