BAYSIDE, QUEENS — The New York City Department of Education is cutting a popular pre-K program at Sacred Heart Catholic Academy of Bayside, according to a news report.

The agency has decided — with little explanation — not to renew the Catholic school's Pre-K for All contract, NY1 reported Wednesday.

Sacred Heart Bayside has offered free pre-K since 2015, according to NY1. The 36-seat program is so sought-after that it has a waiting list.

Four other Diocese of Brooklyn schools are also losing their universal pre-K programs, including Sacred Heart Catholic Academy of Glendale, NY1 reported.

A Department of Education spokesperson told the news outlet that the city is adding hundreds more pre-K seats in communities that haven't yet been chosen, but did not explicitly address the reason for the cuts.
