St. Patrick's Day Parade Rescheduled For September In Bayside

Bayside's twice-postponed St. Patrick's Day Parade has been rescheduled for September — six months before the holiday's March 2022 date.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — St. Patrick's Day is typically celebrated in March, but this year Baysiders are commemorating the holiday in September.

In January, the Bayside St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee cancelled its March parade for the second year in a row amid the pandemic, but the parade has now been rescheduled for Saturday, September 18, organizers announced on Facebook this Wednesday.

"We're back," the post says, adding that this 3rd annual parade marks "the half way to 2022 St. Patrick's Day."

Francis McLoughlin, the parade’s president, told the Irish Voice, an Irish-focused news site, that the event is “99.9 percent certain – it’s a done deal,”

The site reported that the parade organizers have applied for a permit with the NYPD and Department of Transportation and are "on track for approval" for their September event.

Although it's unconventional to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in the fall, this will be the first time since 2019 when the parade has marched down Bell Boulevard, which has locals excited.

“There’s a lot of support for having the march in September. The businesses are very happy about it too,” McLoughlin told the Irish Voice.

And, Bayside is not the only community that's planning to hold a six months delayed St. Patrick's Day parade.

The 44th annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade in Greenwood Lake, New York is slated for Sunday, September 19, and other groups in Maryland and Pennsylvania are also planning to have parades this September.
