This Bayside Ice Cream Shop Was Named 1 Of Nation's Best

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — With hot summer days just around the corner, Baysiders can rejoice in knowing that one of the best ice cream spots in the country is located locally, according to a new report.

The new list by Today names Pesso's Ices & Ice Cream, a family-owned business located at 203-20 35th Avenue, as the 13th best ice cream shop in the United States, among a list of 41 small scoop shops and cold treat brands — many of which are run by people people of color — that are “deserving of our support this summer.”

The twelve shops that are ranked before Pesso’s are also all based in New York City, including the Flushing Ice Cream Factory, which at number six on the list is the only other Queens-based ice cream store mentioned on the list.

Today writes that there’s “a whole mess of flavors available” at Pesso’s — including “rainbow, cherry, pineapple and orange creamsicle Italian ice, and hazelnut, cannoli and pistachio gelato,” to name a few.

In order to sample the wide array of flavors, which the shop is known for, Today recommends that you “start up your Rewards Card and, after the 12th order, it’s $5 off.”

The site adds that all of the shop’s ice cream, Italian ices, and gelato is made in house, and that customers can get their cold treat in a cup, cone, or paper squeeze cup.

Delivery isn’t available, but lucky for locals you can order ahead of time online if you don’t want to wait in line.

The accolades from Today aren’t the first for Pesso’s, which reopened for the summer on March 5 and was crowned the best ice cream shop in Queens — for the fifth consecutive year — a couple of days later.

Also, at the end of May the New York Times named the ice cream and Italian ice shop as one of the best beginning-of-the-summer ice cream spots.
