FRESH MEADOWS, QUEENS — A man sprayed Francis Lewis High School with graffiti reading "change the system" and "BLM," along with an apparent reference to the school's principal, according to police.

The man spray-painted the school about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, then fled, leaving behind a five-gallon tank of gasoline, a police spokesperson said.

The graffiti included an acronym for the Black Lives Matter movement and the phrase "this is where you put Dr. Marmor," which was sprayed on a waste bin outside the school.

The protests of police brutality and systemic racism, which started after George Floyd's death at the hands of Minneapolis police, have also led students across the city to expose experiences with racism at their institutions.

Two weeks ago, a video surfaced on social media of Francis Lewis students using racial slurs, prompting school officials to release a statement condemning the "offensive" and "unacceptable" behavior.
