Coronavirus Cases Close Classrooms In 5 Northeast Queens Schools

Five District 26 schools had to close a classroom this week due to COVID-19 cases, according to the NYC Department of Education.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Five District 26 schools were forced to close a classroom this week due to a student or staffer testing positive for the coronavirus, according to the NYC Department of Education.

P.S. 213 The Carl Ullman School was the latest to see a classroom shut its doors after at least one coronavirus case was reported there Friday, a map of active cases from the Department of Education shows.

Under Department of Education policy, one or two cases in the same classroom prompts a closure of that room and requires all close contacts of the person to quarantine for 14 days.

Four other schools in the district have closed classrooms since Wednesday due to cases of the virus.

J.H.S. 067 Louis Pasteur and P.S. 191 Mayflower each reported one case of a student testing positive for the coronavirus this week, according to the state's dashboard of school coronavirus cases.

One staffer at M.S. 158 Marie Curie and another at J.H.S. 074 Nathaniel Hawthorne also tested positive for the virus this week, according to the state's dashboard, which does not differentiate between teachers and other school staffers.

A staffer at Louis Pasteur tested positive last week.

A sixth COVID-19 case was reported Wednesday at Commonpoint Queens' Sam Field Center, the NYC Department of Education map shows.
