Coronavirus Cases Prompt 10-Day Closure At Bayside School

Five students at P.S. 159 have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks, according to state records.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — The elementary school P.S. 159 is temporarily closed for in-person learning after at least five students tested positive for the coronavirus, according to city and state data.

The Bayside school will be closed until Feb. 4, according to an advisory on the school's website.

P.S. 159, located at 205-01 33rd Ave., is one of six schools in District 26 that were temporarily closed Wednesday due to COVID-19 cases among students, faculty and staff, according to the New York City Department of Education's map of school closures.

P.S. 390 and P.S. 203 are also under 10-day closure orders, the Department of Education map shows.

Two P.S. 390 students tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks, according to state data. At P.S. 203, four students and four teachers or staff members tested positive.

The District 26 schools are three of 30 that were under extended building closures as of Tuesday night, when the Department of Education last updated its data.

Hundreds of New York City schools restarted in-person classes for elementary school students and preschoolers in December.
