Demand transparency in DOE Fair Student Funding for BHS
Bayside High School (BHS) continues to get cheated out of its Fair Student Funding (FSF), let's demand transparency and action!

Dear Community, Alumni, & Members of FoBHS,

We need your help as this takes more than a village to help your school. It takes YOU! Come to your Community Board 11 meeting to let your community know you support BHS.
As some of you may not know, the Department of Education uses a sophisticated formula to calculate how much money each school receives. It’s based on the needs (not wants) of a school’s students. The Department then also calculates and adds how much money expensive programs like specialized or career & technical education programs cost.

This formula is called Fair Student Funding (FSF) but it is not fair to your children’s school: Bayside High School.
For ten years, the Department of Education has reduced the amount that Bayside High School should get by 10% to 17%. Just this school year, Bayside High School was underfunded by over $3.6 million. This gap amount keeps getting larger each year.

Many schools receive more than 100% of their Fair Student Funding- your school does not.
The Department of Education blames New York State, blames the economy, but does not blame the billions of dollars that it wastes each year on pet projects and excessive overhead costs. It refuses to fully fund your school even with their $25 billion budget-- of your tax money!
It even blames Bayside High School for being “successful enough” and “not needing” the needs-based funding.
Is your child worth less than other New York City schoolchildren?
Should your child get an “education on the cheap” when other schools are overfunded?
Please help your neighborhood school, PTA, and community achieve equity for our children. If this under-funding continues, we will see larger classes, fewer guidance and support services, fewer after school and summer programs and less security...while other schools have more funding than they can use and the bureaucracy keeps wasting more of your taxes!
