Fort Totten Building Wins Award For Excellence In Preservation
Building 207 in Bayside's Fort Totten Park won recognition from the Preservation League of New York State for its "remarkable" restoration.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A recently-restored building Fort Totten Park has won recognition for the "remarkable" work done to preserve it, the Preservation League of New York State announced.
The Preservation League named Fort Totten's Building 207 one of its 2020 Excellence Award Winners, according to a news release.
The building, which was constructed in 1905 as one of 80 structures to house officers and soldiers at Fort Totten, now houses the headquarters of the Center for the Women of New York, a membership organization.

The Center celebrated the headquarters' grand opening last year, following restoration work by Page Ayres Cowley Architecture.
The architecture firm "did a remarkable job adapting this site for modern everyday use," the Preservation League of New York State said.

Before the Center for the Women of New York moved in, the building at 207 Totten Ave. had been vacant for well over three decades.
