Bayside Resident Converts Garage Into Art Gallery
The garage's first exhibition, "Then and Now: The Shape and Line of Home," is on display until Nov. 26 by appointment only.
BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A Bayside woman has converted her garage into an art gallery.
The Garage Art Space, started by painter and curator Stephanie S. Lee, makes its debut later this month with a solo show of the artist Frances Hynes, according to a news release.
Hynes' collection of paintings and a single sculpture draw inspiration from 1970s and '80s Queens architecture, according to the museum's website.

"I grew up in Bayside, Queens, when this locale was transforming from a rural place to a more suburban one of single-family homes," Hynes said. "The Garage Art Center is an innovative and creative venture contributing to the visual arts community of Queens and I am thrilled to be exhibiting at this new venue in Bayside."
Lee, the art space's founder, teaches Korean folk art at Flushing Town Hall and works part time for the Godwin-Ternbach Museum at Queens College.
