Get A 7-Pound Gyro Platter At This Bayside Eatery
It's called the "Gyro World Plate" and it's packed with family recipes, Thrillist reported.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- One Queens eatery is taking New York City's reputation for delicious Greek fare to the next level with a 7-pound gyro platter that's packed full of mouth-watering family recipes.
The two-foot long "Gyro World Plate" packed with chicken, beef, pork, fries and more is the signature dish at Gyro World, an authentic Greek restaurant that first opened on the corner of Northern Boulevard and 195th Street in 2005.
The Flushing/Bayside eatery has since expanding into Astoria and Ridgewood, where its massive homemade platter has become famous. The dish was first highlighted in a Thrillist video on Saturday that garnered nearly 400,000 views in three days.

Viewers get a sneak peak into the makings of Gyro World's signature 7-pound platter from the eatery's co-owner Thanasi Petridis in the Thrillist Travel Facebook video.
Warm pitas are first layered onto the tray and piled high with fries. The dish is then loaded with chicken and beef bifteki and pork and chicken souvlaki - or kebabs - before beef, lamb and pork gyro meats are added in alongside Greek sausages. The platter is topped with lemons, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions and served with tzatziki sauce on the side.

Many of the meats packed into the platter are made with family restaurants passed down through generations in Petridis' family, Thrillist reported.
"Our recipes all kind of have their own little stories behind them," Petridis told Thrillist. "Our pork sausage is from my father's grandfather."
Petridis said his father used the pork and chicken souvlaki recipes in his food cart, which he ran for more than a decade before opening Gyro World.
"Before he opened up the restaurant, he did that for like 10, 15 years," he told Thrillist.
Petridis said the Gyro World Plate has been a big hit among customers looking to sample all the restaurant's offerings.
"What our customers love about the Gyro World Plate is, first off, it's the size of it, and then it's just that they can try everything and see what they like," he told Thrillist.
Owners of Gyro World were not immediately available for comment when contacted by Patch.
