Italian restaurant Giardino in Douglaston has closed for good — but its owner will still run Russo's on the Bay and Vetro in Howard Beach.

DOUGLASTON, QUEENS — Italian restaurant Giardino in Douglaston has closed for good.

The old-world Italian restaurant at 44-37 Douglaston Pkwy. officially closed at the end of June after 27 years in business, QNS.com reported.

"It is with a heavy heart that after 27 years of great food, delicious wine, wonderful people, fun times, hard work, ups and downs, we have decided it’s time to move on to the next life adventure," the Giardino website says.

Owner Frank Russo Jr. will continue to operate his other establishments, the restaurant Vetro and the popular event venue Russo's on the Bay, both in Howard Beach.

Giardino's executive chef Mike Competiello and manager Joe Competiello will join the Vetro team.
