BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Over half of adults in Bayside are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, new data shows, reflecting the demographic trends of New York's pandemic recovery.

The 11360, 11361, and 11364 ZIP codes, which encompass all of Bayside, are all over 50 percent fully vaccinated as of Monday meaning more than half of residents in the neighborhood have gotten both doses of the vaccine against COVID-19.

The milestone comes several weeks after the ZIP codes reached a 50 percent partial vaccination rate, which was nearly double that of nearby southeastern Queens neighborhoods — a vaccination rate disparity that still remains.

Bayside’s northernmost ZIP code, 11360, which has the area's highest percentage of white residents, also has the neighborhood's highest vaccination rate with 55 percent of residents fully vaccinated.

The neighborhood’s 11360 and 11364 ZIP codes, which are still primarily populated by high-earning, white residents according to census data, fall right behind, with a full vaccination rate of 53 percent.

By comparison, less than 30 percent of all adults in the nearby neighborhoods of Jamaica, St. Albans, Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, and Rosedale are fully vaccinated.

The neighborhoods, which are overwhelmingly populated by people of color, have full vaccination rates as low as 26 percent, with at most 29 percent of residents fully vaccinated.

Except for the Jamaica ZIP code of 11433, less than 40 percent of all adults in the neighborhoods have received their first COVID-19 jab. By comparison, nearly 70 percent, if not more, of all adults in the three Bayside ZIP codes have gotten their first shot, data shows.

The higher-than-average vaccination rate in Bayside underscores a boroughwide and citywide trend, where the highest vaccination rates continue to be in wealthy, majority-white ZIP codes, as the city struggles to fulfill their goal of reaching neighborhoods hardest-hit by the pandemic with vaccines.
