Man Who Threatened Protesters Indicted For Attempted Murder: DA

A grand jury in Queens indicted a man on 39-counts, including attempted murder, after he threatened to kill a group of protesters in Queens.

WHITESTONE, QUEENS — A man who was arrested last summer after threatening to kill a group of Black Lives Matter protesters in Whitestone was indicted for attempted murder, and other charges, on Wednesday, announced the Queens District Attorney.

In an incident caught on video in June of last year, Whitestone resident Frank Cavalluzzi — who first yelled threats and spat at protesters from his car — strapped a glove made of knives to his arm and chased after a protester, according to video footage.

He then got back in his SUV and sped off down the sidewalk, nearly running over several protesters, according to the Queens District Attorney.

Today, in Flushing, Cavalluzzi was hit with a 39-count indictment, including second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree attempted assault, reckless driving, and more.

In a statement on Wednesday Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said the incident was “sheer terror for the victims.”

Gabe, a Whitestone resident who was among the protesters, and asked to be identified only by his first name for fear of retaliation, told Patch that “everyone was really, really shook up" by the original incident.

Cavalluzzi is expected to return to court on May 5 and faces 25-years-to-life in prison for each victim if convicted.
