Mosquito Spraying Will Target Bayside Park
The Health Department is spraying to control the potentially disease-carrying insects.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A Bayside park will be sprayed as part of the city's efforts to keep mosquitoes under control, Department of Health officials announced.
The spraying is part of a program to tackle marshy areas in the five boroughs that will happen between June 28 and 30.
Bayside's Alley Pond Park will be treated to target larvae before they hatch, according to the Health Department. The pesticide used, VectoBac GS, is environmentally friendly and contains naturally occurring bacteria, according to the health department. It will be sprayed from a low-flying helicopter.

The area affected is bounded by Douglaston Parkway and 240th Street to the east, Northern Boulevard to the north, Cross Island Parkway and East Hampton Boulevard to the west and Grand Central Parkway to the south
Others areas that will be sprayed in Queens are the Dubos Point wildlife refuge, Edgemere Park, Brookville Park and Kissena Park.

The department advises residents to get rid of standing water around their homes as the best way to get cope with mosquitoes, which can carry diseases including West Nile Virus.
