FLORAL PARK, QUEENS — Officials postponed two upcoming meetings on the MTA's Queens bus network redesign due to the spread of the new coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19.

A March 18 meeting in Whitestone and a March 19 meeting in the North Shore Towers in Floral Park will be postponed, according to state Assembly Member Ed Braunstein.

"The MTA has promised to reschedule the forums and will not move forward with the plan until they are able to meet with our community," Braunstein said on Twitter.

Community leaders are canceling or postponing events across New York City in an effort to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus, which the World Health Organization on Wednesday officially deemed a pandemic.

More than 50 people in New York City had tested positive for the new coronavirus as of Wednesday afternoon, according to city officials. Local health officials are bracing for a spike in cases as more people get tested.

Anybody who feels sick should stay home and avoid crowded locations, and those who are concerned they might have the novel coronavirus should call New York's 311 hotline for instructions on what to do.
