GLEN OAKS, QUEENS — The city's Department of Transportation will install a traffic light this summer at Grand Central Parkway and 267th Street.

Workers are scheduled to put up the traffic signal in June, according to an agency spokesperson.

Glen Oaks residents had asked the Department of Transportation for safety improvements at the notoriously dangerous intersection, the spokesperson said.

Locals say the intersection is a known blind spot and that drivers disregard a sign prohibiting left turns off 267th Street and onto Grand Central Parkway.

The intersection was the site of a fatal crash in 2017, according to city crash data, and at least a dozen people have been injured there within the last decade.

Planners with the Department of Transportation green-lighted the proposal after conducting what's called an "intersection control study," which examines traffic patterns and crash data at a given intersection to determine whether it's appropriate to add a stop sign or traffic light. Intersections must also meet certain federal guidelines.

Anyone can request a traffic signal or stop sign by filling out this form.
