OAKLAND GARDENS, QUEENS — An Oakland Gardens elementary school was ordered temporarily closed Saturday after two coronavirus cases were reported there within a seven-day span.

P.S. 213 The Carl Ullman School will remain closed until Nov. 13 as a result of two COVID-19 cases among the school community whose link couldn't be determined, according to the NYC Department of Education.

A P.S. 213 student tested positive for the virus when the school conducted testing on Oct. 21, according to Department of Education data on the mandatory in-school testing program.

It's unclear when the second case was reported and whether it was a student, teacher or staffer.

"We do not hesitate to take quick action for the health and safety of our school communities, and that’s exactly what we do when positive cases are confirmed," Department of Education Deputy Press Secretary Nathaniel Styer said in an emailed statement.

"Guided by the most comprehensive testing system in the country, we follow stringent guidance from the City and State health departments to prevent any further transmission by quarantining close contacts, closing classrooms, and, if necessary, entire buildings."

The school building will still reopen Tuesday to serve as a polling site for voters in the area, according to Styer.

Schools that are being used as polling sites on Election Day are getting disinfected Monday night.
