Popular Astoria Greek Restaurant To Open Bayside Spot

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- An authentic Greek eatery that's promised to open in Bayside for months is expected to open its doors by Mid-March, employees said.

Taverna Kyclades has built up a reputation for its homemade Greek dishes and fresh seafood with its restaurants in Astoria and East Village. The eatery's long-promised third spot at 39-28 Bell Blvd. is slated to open in two weeks, said Rocco Tedesco, who introduced himself as the new eatery's bar manager on a Bayside Facebook group Tuesday.

"I worked at the location in the east village for two years," Tedesco wrote. "We should be opening in a couple weeks. I can't wait to meet and serve you all some fresh Greek food and nice drinks!!"

Tedesco and owners of Taverna Kyclades did not immediately return Patch's requests for comment.

The Greek eatery moving into the former home of Il Borgo Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar is a family-owned business most famous for its fresh seafood.

"Every day - early in the morning - when everybody else sleeps, we personally choose the fish, meat and other ingredients that you will taste in our dishes," the restaurant's website states.

Seafood dishes to be served at its Bayside location include European and black sea bass, red and pink snappers, swordfish souvlaki, baby shark, scallops and more, according to the website.

The eatery will also serve up options "from the land," including: lamb chops, ribeye, chicken souvlaki and grilled chicken breast. Lunch specials and an assortment of Greek appetizers and salads will also be available, the website states.

Taverna Kyclades has several times used social media to hint at the upcoming opening of its Bayside location. On Friday, the eatery posted its most recent photo to Facebook of what looked like the new spot's finished bar space with the caption, "Sneak peak......Bayside is just about ready."
