Shakespeare In Bayside: Crocheron Park Staging Free Play

The free play comes to Queens courtesy of a Woodside theatre company.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Shakespeare lovers in Bayside will be treated to an extension of New York City’s Shakespeare in the Parks when the Hip to Hip Theatre Company, based in Woodside, teams with the city Parks Department for a live performance of Shakespeare’s “Measure to Measure.”

The performance takes place Aug. 3 in Crocheron Park from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

In “Measure to Measure,” the Duke of Vienna’s puritanical deputy, Angelo, is tasked with cleaning up a city swiftly spinning out of control, prompting the deputy to revive ancient laws regarding sex and marriage.

When Angelo sentences a young gentleman to death, the gentleman’s sister pleads her brother’s case, discovering that Angelo is not as virtuous as he seems. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

There will be an interactive children’s workshop at 7 p.m., designed for ages 4 to 12. The event offers children the chance to preview the play’s characters and scenes through theatre games and a peek at the script.
