BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Several politicians and civic leaders with ties to Bayside are among the top 100 leaders in Queens who are championing the borough’s pandemic recovery efforts, according to a new report.

The 100-person long list released by City & State this week features leaders of all kinds, across the entire borough — from health care professionals in Flushing and Elmhurst, to union chiefs in southeastern Queens — who are bringing Queens back from the devastation of the COVID pandemic, after the borough became New York City’s epicenter of the epicenter last year.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) State Senators John Liu and Toby Ann Stavisky and the Bayside-based head of the New York City Police Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, are among the list’s top 20 people. Meng is named as the second-most important leader in the borough.

In addition to people who hold borough-wide positions, like Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, these Bayside leaders are named for their contributions to Queens during the last year.

To name a few: Meng co-introduced the COVID-19 Hate Crimes bill to address the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans amid the pandemic, Stavitsky helped pass legislation to improve student aid, and Mangino led Bayside’s CUNY during a year of hybrid and remote learning.
