FRESH MEADOWS, QUEENS — The Union Turnpike exit on the southbound Clearview Expressway in northeast Queens closed Monday for days of construction work.

The Exit 2 ramp, located by the border of Fresh Meadows and Oakland Gardens, will be closed until the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 20, according to the state's transportation department.

It closed just after 8 a.m. Monday, a spokesperson said.

To get to Union Turnpike from the expressway, drivers may instead stay to the left and turn onto Hillside Avenue, then head north on the Clearview Expressway and take Exit 2 on that side.

The construction work is part of the agency's $3 million project to cut down on traffic at that exit by widening the ramp and adding a second lane, which started in January.

The project will also add new, ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at the intersection of Union Turnpike, according to the agency.
