Bed-Stuy Street Video: Young Man Beaten, Shot Dead by Gang of 10

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Coney Island resident Samdrevious Head, 20, was beaten by a gang of around 10 attackers in a Gates Avenue street gutter late Monday night, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) — and was then hit by a fatal bullet to the back as he tried to run away.

Police released video Tuesday of the street beating.

"A group of approximately 10 males approached the victim and punched and kicked him numerous times," the NYPD said in a statement. "When the victim ran from the group one of the suspects followed him and shot him once in the back."

Cops said they responded to a 911 call at 10:17 p.m. Monday reporting that a man had been shot in front of 452 Gates Ave.

When they arrived to the crime scene, emergency responders found Head on the ground with a gunshot wound in his torso, police said. He was pronounced dead soon after at Woodhull Hospital in northern Bed-Stuy.

Detectives had made no arrests in the murder case by Thursday afternoon. "The investigation is ongoing," the NYPD said in a statement.

Head was killed within the NYPD's 79th Precinct, which covers the eastern half of Bed-Stuy. According to official police statistics, through Sept. 11, the number of shootings in the 79th were down 13 percent — and the number of shooting victims down 14 percent — compared to the same period last year.
