BrownstoneJAZZ, THE ROOM designed for the natural sound of music. The venue is filled with the authentic cultural awareness of a different period of musical togetherness.
Step back for just a moment, to feel what took place during the earlier years in a real jazz community. The authentic jazz vibe of yesteryear retreating back to a different time. Jazz evenings in a very intimate, private place experiencing a Concert and Southern Fish Fry Buffet that will delight any palette cooked on site in a traditional old school way.
Before the evening ends join the OPEN MIC. The musicians will play with you or you can play for them. Open Participation is expected at the end of the night from the audience, but if you’re shy just sit back and enjoy the show.
Experience an Upright Grand Piano from the early 19th c., jonce used to create the Classic Jazz tunes still played today. The Charles M. Stieff Co., piano has its own American history. Referred to as the poor mans Steinway, when actually it stood with Grand Steinways of it day. Also like Brownstone houses, Stieff pianos are no longer created.
During the 1930 perhaps even earlier, one didn't always go to Harlem for the Jazz scene. Brooklyn had one as well. Bedford Stuyvesant had on of the largest Jazz neighborhood in around. Bed Stuy held many venues that housed jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Hank Mobley and others. Brooklyn's Paramount Theatre among others held major Jazz Concerts. All eventually changed, and jazz club fizzled out in favor of a different generation of music. Yes, even Uptown and Midtown changed as well.
Debbie McClain, owner of Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast looked to revive the local community scene of the past. Including jazz from the past when she met with partner Eric Lemons.
DebbieMc, along with Eric Lemons an accomplished string musician and Co-Foundering partner for BrownstoneJAZZ values authenticity and selectiveness, when deciding who to feature and when. This is Salon Jazz classic, acoustic concerts in a fun loving atmosphere for everyone.
Spend a magical evening of music as Debbie and Eric take you behind the scene of this jazz experience.
You can get there early to meet the performers, and as you take a seat for a jazz fest of a lifetime, with the right ticket, as these two host present you with today's best Jazz artist.
