BROOKLYN, NY — Cops are searching for the driver who fatally hit a sanitation worker in Brooklyn and then left the scene of the crash Saturday.

Angel Aguilar-Duran, 52, was hit by a Honda Odyssey around 8 a.m. on Havemeyer Street near Hope Street, according to police. Emergency responders took Aguilar-Duran to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told CBS that the van dragged Aguilar-Duran, who was a sanitation worker on the street, for nearly half a block before stopping.

One person who got out of the van tried to pull Aguilar-Duran out from under the car, but onlookers waiting for paramedics nearby told them to leave him alone. The driver and passenger walked away from the scene, the witnesses told the outlet.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad, police said.

Aguilar-Duran, who lived in Bushwick, is at least the third victim of a fatal hit-and-run in Brooklyn in the last few weeks.

Last week, a homeless man who had been in the hospital after being hit crossing Atlantic Avenue died from his injuries. Cops are also searching for the car that hit and killed an MTA bus driver on Shepard Avenue in March.

Another fatal crash in Red Hook recently prompted renewed calls for safety improvements to the street. Also in late February, 6-year-old Shimon Fried was hit and killed just outside his home in South Williamsburg by a school bus.
