80 New Citi Bike Stops Slated for North Brooklyn

Two-thirds of them will be in Bed-Stuy.

Citi Bike, New York’s public bike-sharing system, is gearing up for some much-needed expansion into NYC’s less accessible parts.

Streetsblog first noticed, on Thursday, a ton of new stations showing up on the Citi Bike app, with the label, ”coming soon.”

Now, a Citi Bike spokesperson confirms to Patch that the “coming soon” stations have been approved by the NYC Department of Transportation and are slated for construction.

“I do not have a firm date but we expect to be announcing one shortly,” says Dani Simons, director of communications for Citi Bike.

That means we can expect more than 100 new bike racks to pop up in the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Long Island City and Brooklyn.

All of Brooklyn’s new racks — around 80, by our count — will be in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bed-Stuy. (Plus two in the Fort Greene-Clinton Hill area, which is already pretty dense with racks.)

Based on past statements Citi Bike has made, Streetsblog estimates the Manhattan stops could be finished by this summer, and the Brooklyn stops by the end of this year.
