According to the NYPD:
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2001 Mack dump truck, driven by a 40-year-old male, was stopped at a traffic light on Broadway at Gates Avenue. When the light turned green, the truck proceeded to travel east on Broadway. Simultaneously the female began to cross over Broadway and was struck by the truck.
The dump-truck driver stayed on the scene, police say, and “the investigation is ongoing by the New York City Police Departments Highway Collision Investigation Squad.”
Walker is said to have lived at 969 Gates Avenue in far-east Bed-Stuy, near Bushwick.
A witness who works nearby Broadway and Gates tells NBC New York that he “ran out into the street when he heard screaming” and “saw an older woman’s body underneath the truck.”
