A Laundromat Project, Alternate Side Parking Changes and Huey Lewis and the News

A look at what's going on today in Bed-Stuy

  • Today, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host Huey Lewis and the News at the 35th anniversary season of the Seaside Summer Concert Series at Coney Island. This is only the second time the band, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their chart-topping album Sports, has played in Brooklyn.
  • Don’t forget to stop by Malcolm X Blvd (and the corner of Putnam) today and tomorrow to participate in “Mapping Soulville,” the new art project exploring BedStuy's tradition of naming streets after black historical figures. The Laundromat Project has commissioned BedStuy native, Aisha Cousins, to create three remixes of a live art project called Mapping Soulville at Marmy Laundromat. Activities include a series of drop-in art workshops on map making, silkscreening, button making, and mural design. Parents, youth, and educators welcome!
  • Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations will be suspended today, Thursday, August 15, for Feast of the Assumption. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.
  • Mainly sunny skies predicted for today, with a high of 78F.
