The 38-year-old victim was rushed a few blocks north to Woodhull Hospital, where he died from his gunshot wounds, police said. The 64-year-old victim — believed to be a bystander and not a target — survived the shooting, police said, and was recovering "in stable condition" Wednesday at Kings County Hospital in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
No arrests had been made by late morning, and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
Police were withholding the identity of the 38-year-old until his family had been notified of his death.
Wednesday morning's fatal bodega shooting occurred within the NYPD's 79th Precinct, which covers the eastern half of Bed-Stuy. Just one day earlier, at Tompkins and Vernon, gunfire again rang out in the neighborhood when cops from the 79th cops shot a wanted man who was allegedly trying to hit them with his car.

Overall, however, shootings in the 79th are way down this year compared to last: According to official police statistics, through mid-September, the number of shooting victims within the precinct had dropped 71 percent compared to last year.
