BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — After lagging other parts of New York City and the borough as a whole, Bed-Stuy is closing in on a 50-percent full vaccination rate, data shows.

All but one of the neighborhood's five ZIP codes were within one percentage point of the 50-percent milestone on Wednesday, meaning just about half of adults in each ZIP code had gotten both of their shots against the virus, according to the data.

The full vaccination numbers come, predictably, about a month after Bed-Stuy ZIP codes reached the halfway point in adults getting the first dose of the vaccine.

Both 11205 and 11206 had surpassed 49 percent, data shows.

Only 11233, which has consistently had one of the lowest vaccination rates in the city, lagged well below the 50-percent marker. As of Wednesday, 44.8 percent of people in that ZIP code, which also includes parts of Brownsville, had gotten at least their first shot and only 39 percent were fully vaccinated, data shows.

Brooklyn as a whole reached the 50-percent full vaccination marker earlier this month, the second to last borough to do so.

Across the state, 70 percent of adults have gotten at least their first dose of the vaccine, spurring all coronavirus restrictions to be lifted this week.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo had urged local governments to focus on ZIP codes with low vaccination rates, including 11233, to bring the state over the threshold.

New York City's wealthiest, majority-white neighborhoods still have the highest vaccine rates, including, in Brooklyn, Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights, where 70 percent or more of adults have gotten fully vaccinated.

The city has struggled to reach New Yorkers of color and the neighborhoods hardest-hit by the coronavirus crisis since the start of its vaccine distribution.

Coronavirus rates have continued a steady decline as New Yorkers get vaccinated, despite a recent slowdown in the distribution of the shot.

In Bed-Stuy, the seven-day average positivity rate in all ZIP codes was well below 1 percent on Wednesday. The lowest is found in 11205, which also includes parts of Clinton Hill and Fort Greene.
