Bed-Stuy's Spookiest Need $2K For Halloween Show

The Friends of Macon Library are raising cash to bring their sci-fi extravaganza to the streets of Bed-Stuy.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A Bed-Stuy library needs $2,000 before Halloween to throw its spooky sci-fi masquerade.

Friends of Macon Library are hoping to raise cash for "Masquerade on Macon: Bed-Stuy Sci Fi," which will feature neighborhood kids showing off their scary science skills, according to the GoFundMe campaign launched in September.

"Synopsis: What happens when Martians try to invade earth?" Masquerade on Macon organizers wrote. "Luckily a group of science-loving kids know what to do to save BedStuy (and our planet!)"

The production is organized by some former members of Halloween 313, a Clinton Hill-based group that brought down its last curtain in 2017 after 24 years in the neighborhood, Brownstoner reported at the time.

Founder Janna Kennedy-Hyten told Brownstoner the annual event sometimes drew a crowd of more than 5,000.

Cash will fund a stage set up outside the Macon Library on Lewis Avenue and Macon Street on Oct. 31, as well as some gaudy costumes and gruesome sets, organizers wrote.

The troupe's 15-minute play will be performed several times throughout the evening for everyone in the neighborhood to see.

Any extra funds raised will go toward funding future events at the library.

The show is free but attendees can RSVP on EventBrite.
