Bed-Stuy's Tranquility Farms Gets Official City Sign
The farm's staff and volunteers celebrated their victory at a get-together on Sunday.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Bed-Stuy's Tranquility Farms, a community farm and garden that grows ornamental plants, fruit trees, berries, and vegetables, celebrated on Sunday its official NYC Parks Department sign, which indicates it is now recognized by the department as an official city park.
The farm was quick to point out that the farm is not, however, a preserved site, which would mean it would be protected from anyone who wants to buy the land or develop on it, including the city.
But its members and volunteers chose to celebrate their victory of a routed green sign anyway on Sunday morning on the farm, at Throop and Willoughby avenues.

"A Wonderful day for us all as we each spent time expressing our own personal connection to the space, how far we've come, and our dreams for the future. It was bittersweet day, and a partial victory. As we took time out to celebrate, we are ever mindful of Green Valley Farm in Brownsville, stakeholders there are still fighting to hold onto the Farm in its entirety, the struggle continues!" the farm said in a Facebook post.
Green Valley Farm in Brownsville is in danger of being wiped clean by the city for affordable housing developments because it was not properly preserved by city agencies.
