BP Adams Responds To Delays In Bus Service During Evening Rush Hour In Bedford-Stuyvesant
Adams received numerous reports from residents and commuters in Bedford-Stuyvesant about buses being re-routed with no prior notice.

“Yesterday during evening rush hour, I received numerous reports from residents and commuters in Bedford-Stuyvesant about buses being re-routed with no prior notice, forcing many commuters to wait for hours in the rain as they were trying to get home–potentially keeping them out later than the City-mandated 8:00 PM curfew. I subsequently reached out to the MTA demanding answers, and was informed that buses were being re-routed due to the protests taking place throughout the borough.

“We are now a week into the protests over the murder of George Floyd, and several months into the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I understand that a certain level of disruption to services is expected — but changing bus service without informing commuters who rely on it, largely essential workers, is completely unacceptable. There must be better interagency coordination between the NYPD and the MTA, especially as we begin a phased re-opening of the city, to ensure buses can continue to run on their regular routes, and, when they can’t, to provide clear information and alternative travel options to riders. In addition, I am reiterating a call I made with three other borough presidents urging the City to expedite the installation of 40 miles of dedicated bus lanes across the city to shorten commute times. A crisis is no excuse to leave people in already underserved areas stranded.”
