This Brooklyn Restaurant Just Earned Its First Michelin Star

BROOKLYN, NY — A Williamsburg restaurant has earned its first Michelin star, the only Brooklyn eatery added to the coveted guide's 2021 list.

Francie, which sits on the corner of Broadway and Bedford Avenue, is one of seven new Michelin-starred restaurants in New York City. All seven new restaurants were given the one-star designation.

"Native New Yorker Chef Chris Cipollone makes a splash with Francie, which is located in an old yet stunning, limestone-clad building," the reviewers wrote. "Named for the main character in a Betty Smith novel, sleek ash wood floors with a center tile mosaic, widely spaced tables, and a clean, modern, mid-century vibe render this quietly elegant haven quite unforgettable."

The guide went on to praise the "soufflé cake matched with caviar-topped seaweed butter that's replete with umami flavor," the "chewy rigatoni dressed with sweet Calabrian pumpkin and savory Italian sausage" and a "perfect cream puff filled with soft maple and strong Bourbon."

Here are the six other New York City restaurants that received their first Michelin star on Thursday:

• Rezdôra: Flatiron
• Jua: Flatiron
• Vestry: SoHo/HudsonSquare
• Kochi: Hell's Kitchen
• Francie: Williamsburg

The five New York City restaurants with three Michelin stars from the 2019 guide held onto their top rating — with no new restaurants joining the elite group. Those eateries are Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Park Madison, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.
