Doonie The Hoodie-Clad Yorkie Is Missing In Bed-Stuy

Doonie, an 11-year-old Yorkie who lives on Monroe Street, has been missing for two weeks.

BEDFORD STUYVESANT, NY — A 11-year-old rescue dog named Doonie has been missing in Bed-Stuy for two weeks and his owner says she's “going crazy” with worry.

The Yorkie dashed out of his home on Monroe Street near Patchen Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, according to owner Tanya Coombs, 29.

“He's like my child,” said Coombs, who has been working night and day for two weeks, trying to bring Doonie home. “It’s hard — I just keep looking at his bed, it's empty.”

Doonie once belonged to Coomb’s cousin, but she adopted the little dog four years ago when she realized he needed her help, she said.

Doonie had several burn marks from when he was accidentally splattered with chicken grease, he was often left alone in his cage without a bed, and his teeth were rotten, said Coombs.

“It's so sickening how people treat animals,” she said. “Me and my cousin have almost gone to blows.”

Since then, Coombs has invested thousands in getting Doonie his shots, repairing broken nails, suiting him with a small collection of small hoodies, and extracting all his teeth.

“That’s why his tongue hangs out of his mouth,” said Coombs. “He acts and he looks like a child.”

Coombs filed a police report the day Doonie went missing, and since then she’s contacted more than 60 local veterinarians and posted fliers all over the neighborhood.

She also combs Craigslist for sales listings because, after she found some of her flyers ripped down, Coombs is afraid Doonie was stolen.

“At that point someone is in the area who doesn't want us to see that he's lost,” she said. “Somebody knows something.”

Which is why Coombs is offering a reward to anyone who can tell her where to find Doonie, no questions asked.

Coombs and her neighbors are all missing the hoodie-clad dog who has gotten used to being treated right, she said.

“Now, he's like a bougie dog,” said Coombs. “My aunt is like, ‘You spoil him.’ I'm like, 'He deserves it.'”
