Ex-Correction Officer Opens Fire On Robbers At His Bed-Stuy Gas Station, Police Say
"You're better off robbing the police station. There's more guns here than the crooks have," a friend of the victim was quoted as saying.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN - A retired city correction officer who owns a gas station in Bedford-Stuyvesant got into a gun fight with robbers on Monday, according to police.
The victim was injured while exchanging fire with two men who came to his Sunoco station at Gates and Throop avenues around 1:30 p.m., police said.
The gas station owner was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. The suspects were still at large after fleeing.

NBC New York identified the victim as Hillary Farmer. The news station said he was a retired police officer.
It quoted his friend Ken Kaufman, a retired cop, as saying, "This would be the worst place you'd come to rob.

NBC said there were bullet cases, shattered glass and bullet holes in car windows at the station.
