BROOKLYN, NY — A fallen tree and debris on subway tracks have created chaos for Brooklyn subway trains as a tropical storm descends on the city.

L, Q, B, J, M, 3, F trains and the Franklin Avenue shuttle all were stalled or had their routes changed late Tuesday morning as crews worked to remove fallen trees or debris from tracks in the borough, according to MTA alerts.

The fallen trees and debris come as winds from Hurricane Isaias reach 70 mph.

The MTA decided around 1 p.m. to suspend most outdoor service and run underground-only subway service until the winds die down. Transit officials said they will give straphangers as much notice as possible for specific lines.

  • L train — One tree had fallen along the tracks at the East 105th Street station in Canarsie, causing the L train to be suspended in both directions between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway, transit officials said.
  • Franklin Avenue shuttle — Another tree had fallen onto the Franklin Avenue shuttle's tracks, suspending the shuttle in both directions.
  • 3 train — Tree branches also fell onto the tracks on the 3 line, suspending service between Crown Heights-Utica Avenue station and New Lots Avenue in both directions.
  • B train — Debris on the tracks temporarily suspended all B service in Brooklyn.
  • Q train — There is no Q service between Dekalb Avenue and Kings Highway due to debris on tracks near Avenue M and Newkirk Plaza. The Q trains will instead run on the N line in both directions between Dekalb Avenue and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.
  • J and M train — Manhattan-bound J and M trains are running express from Myrtle Avenue to Marcy Avenue due to debris at Myrtle Avenue.

Hurricane Isaias is expected to weaken as it moves from the Carolinas to the northeast, but could still be packing winds of up to 70 mph when it hits the city. That's the strongest wind seen in the region since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
