Gallery Launched In Bed-Stuy Closes After Move To Chelsea: Report
American Medium, a gallery that brought prominent young artists to Bed-Stuy, closed after a year at its Chelsea location, ArtNews reports.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A New York City art gallery that got its start in Bed-Stuy is closing after just one year in its new Chelsea location, according to owners and reports.
American Medium announced Friday the gallery at 515 West 20th St. would permanently close with a brief message on its website — “american medium has come to an end”—and email linking to the Semisonic music video, “Closing Time,” ArtNews reported.
Founders Travis Fitzgerald, Josh Pavlacky, and Daniel Wallace first opened American Medium in 2014 at 424 Gates Ave. in Bed-Stuy, where they provided a platform for burgeoning artists, Time Magazine reported.

American Medium brought prominent multimedia artists such as E. Jane, Ann Hirsch and Harm van den Dorpel into Brooklyn before relocating the gallery to Manhattan in September 2017, according to ArtNews.

The gallery is one of several businesses to shutter its doors in 2018.
