Half Of All Brooklynites Are Now Partially Vaccinated: Data

The borough is the second-to-last to reach the milestone, which includes all ages rather than just those over the age of 18, data shows.

BROOKLYN, NY — Half of Brooklynites have now gotten at least their first shot of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new data.

Brooklyn reached the 50-percent mark for residents of all ages this week after hovering just below the number for at least a month, according to city data.

The city has started keeping track of the vaccinate rate in terms of the total population shortly after New Yorkers as young as 12 years old became eligible for the vaccine.

Brooklyn is the second to last of the five boroughs to reach the 50-percent partial vaccination marker for all ages. The Bronx, with a 47 percent rate for all ages on Wednesday, is the only borough still below the halfway mark.

Both Brooklyn and the Bronx have lagged behind the other three boroughs since the start of the city's vaccine distribution as officials struggled to reach neighborhoods hardest-hit by the pandemic.

The picture in Brooklyn, and across the city, remains uneven.

Vaccination rates have consistently soared wealthier and whiter neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope,. Brooklyn Height has the highest rate in the borough with more than 75 percent of all residents having gotten at least their first shot as of Wednesday.

In other neighborhoods — including ZIP codes in Canarsie, Brownsville and Crown Heights — the percent of the total population who have gotten their first dose falls as low as 37 percent.
