How To Stay Cool In Bed-Stuy During NYC Heat Wave This Week

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — With large swaths of the borough among the most "heat vulnerable" parts of New York City, Brooklynites will want to make a plan for staying cool during a heat wave that will descend on the city this week.

The city is under a heat advisory until Tuesday at 8 p.m. as temperatures are expected to feel like 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

In Brooklyn, there are six community board districts, including Bed-Stuy's, that are classified with a Heat Vulnerability Index 5, or an area with the highest risk of heat injury or death. Four of the borough's community board districts fall under the Index 4 classification, the second-highest risk.

To stay cool, New Yorkers should note nearby cooling centers, beaches, community pools, misting stations and other options, emergency officials warned Monday.
