Iconic Shop Moshood Survives Rent Crisis With Move To Bed-Stuy
Moshood will celebrate its 25th anniversary in its new Restoration Plaza location one year after steep rents forced it out of Fort Greene.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A beloved Brooklyn clothing store threatened last year by an ever increasing rent problem has survived to see its 25th anniversary with a move to a new Bed-Stuy location.
Moshood Creations will celebrate 25 years in Brooklyn on July 28 with a fashion show at its new Restoration Plaza location at 1368 Fulton St., owners announced on social media.
"After 25 beautiful years in Fort Greene we are excited to be in Bed-Stuy," the store owners wrote on Instagram. "Invite your friends and family to come and celebrate."

The store — named for its designer and founder Moshood Afariogun whose focus and motto is "Afrikan Spirit" — opened in at 698 Fulton St. Fort Greene in 1994 and quickly become a favorite for both locals and tourists.
International acclaim, more than $6,500 in crowdfunding and support from City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo, New York State Senator Kevin Parker, New York State Assemblyman Walter Mosley were not enough to keep Moshood in its Fort Greene home.

But it was enough to help Moshood find a new home in Bed-Stuy's Restoration Plaza, which will be celebrated with a fashion show of Moshood's iconic designs.
“I have been here for 25 years, and I love my customers," Afariogun said in an interview with the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. "They are like family to me.”
“Wear Moshood, Wear Yourself.”
Afariogun did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
