Lyft Offering Free Rides For Bed-Stuy Tax Prep

Taxpayers who go to Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation for free tax prep will receive ride codes covering their trips.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn community tax prep program hopes free Lyft rides will ease the strain of an already-tough tax season.

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation officials announced this week they will partner with the ride share app to provide free transport for Brooklynites who use their tax prep services.

That's free on top of free — Restoration's tax prep program doesn't cost anything for families who made less than $64,000.

Officials hope the free rides will open up the tax services to Bed-Stuy residents and other Brooklynites who otherwise might not able to make it to Restoration's Fulton Street plaza.

“Mobility can be the missing link between a service being merely offered and a service being used by the community," said Councilman Robert Cornegy, who represents Bed-Stuy, in a statement. "Thanks to this partnership between Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and Lyft, community residents seeking free tax prep services have an added, convenient mobility option."
